Comment

In the Centrolene mariae group according to Flores and McDiarmid, 1989, Herpetologica, 45: 401–411. Considered to be in the Cochranella ocellata group by Ruiz-Carranza and Lynch, 1991, Lozania, 57: 1–30, but this was rejected by Duellman and Schulte, 1993, Occas. Pap. Mus. Nat. Hist. Univ. Kansas, 155: 1–33, who transferred this species to Centrolene. Cisneros-Heredia and McDiarmid, 2007, Zootaxa, 1572: 34, suggested that this taxon may be conspecific with Cochranella puyoense. See photograph, map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status (as Centrolene mariae and Centrolene puyoensis) in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 210–211. Guayasamin, Cisneros-Heredia, McDiarmid, Peña, and Hutter, 2020, Diversity, 12 (222): 187–189, provided a detailed account, including adult morphology, advertisement call, relationships, natural history, and conservation status.
