Comment
Most closely related to Rana verrucospinosa according to the original publication, although this is inconsistent with subsequent publications. Placed by Dubois, 1987 "1986", Alytes, 5: 43, on the basis of overall similarity, in the supergroup Rana (Paa) spinosa, Rana (Paa) delacouri group; the tree of Jiang, Dubois, Ohler, Tillier, Chen, Xie, and Stöck, 2005, Zool. Sci., Tokyo, 22: 353–362, suggested that these groups make little phylogenetic sense. See Bringsøe, 2002, Sauria, Berlin, 24: 9–16, for account of Thai population. Reported for southwestern Cambodia by Ohler, Swan, and Daltry, 2002, Raffles Bull. Zool., 50: 465–481. Nutphund, 2001, Amph. Thailand: 136–137, provided a brief characterization and photographs. Chan-ard, 2003, Photograph. Guide Amph. Thailand: 124–125, provided a very brief account, map for Thailand, and photograph. Frost, Grant, Faivovich, Bain, Haas, Haddad, de Sá, Channing, Wilkinson, Donnellan, Raxworthy, Campbell, Blotto, Moler, Drewes, Nussbaum, Lynch, Green, and Wheeler, 2006, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 297: 241, recognized Eripaa as a distinct genus, pending its phylogenetic placement via publication of evidence. Jiang, Dubois, Ohler, Tillier, Chen, Xie, and Stöck, 2005, Zool. Sci., Tokyo, 22: 353–362, in their revision of Paini, did not mention this taxon. Ohler and Dubois, 2006, Zoosystema, 28: 769–784, addressed the placement of this species and showed that it is a member of Quasipaa. Stuart and Emmett, 2006, Fieldiana, Zool., N.S., 109: 8–9, provided records for the Cadamom Mountains, southwestern Cambodia (as Paa fasciculispina). Neang and Holden, 2008, Field Guide Amph. Cambodia: 96–97, provided a photograph, brief account of identification, ecology, and range in Cambodia. See photograph, map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status (as Paa fasciculispina) in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 490. Che, Zhou, Hu, Papenfuss, Wake, and Zhang, 2010, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA, 107: 13765–13770, and Che, Zhou, Hu, Papenfuss, Wake, and Zhang, 2010, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA, Suppl. Inform., doi:10.1073/pnas.1008415107/-/DCSupplemental: 1–5, noted a number of unnamed species in this nominal subgenus. Chan-ard, Seangthianchai, and Makchai, 2011, Thailand Nat. Hist. Mus. J., 5: 43, provided records for Chanthaburi Province, Thailand. Chuaynkern, Duengkae, Sribandit, Bunchornratana, Chuaynkern, Khewwan, and Tipayanukul, 2011, Check List, 7: 114–116, discussed the range, habitat, and conservation status in Thailand. Chan-ard, Cota, and Makchai, 2011, Amph. E. Region Thailand: 70–71, provided a photograph and brief account for eastern Thailand. Chuaynkern, Kaewtongkum, Ohler, Duengkae, Duangjai, Makchai, and Chuaynkern, 2018, Alytes, 36: 93–108, amplified the description of the larval buccopharyngel morphology. Niyomwan, Srisom, and Pawangkhanant, 2019, Field Guide Amph. Thailand: 294–295, provided a brief account (description, photographs, habitat, and range) for Thailand (in Thai).
