Comment

Literature prior to the revision of Hasan, Lai, Poyarkov, Ohler, Oliver, Kakehashi, Kurabayashi, and Sumida, 2019, Alytes, 37: 1–30, should be used with caution because of the earlier confusion with Hylarana tytleri and Hylarana erythraea. On Vietnam and China were represented by genetically confirmed specimens of Hylarana macrodactyla in that study, so identifications to the west of Vietnam should be considered provisional.

Discussed by Boulenger, 1920, Rec. Indian Mus., 20: 155; Pope, 1931, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 61: 540–542; Bourret, 1942, Batr. Indochine: 338–341; Taylor, 1962, Univ. Kansas Sci. Bull., 43: 421–423; Berry, 1975, Amph. Fauna Peninsular Malaysia: 76–77; Liu and Hu, 1961, Tailless Amph. China: 197–198; and Fei, 1999, Atlas Amph. China: 180–181. Karsen, Lau, and Bogadek, 1986, Hong Kong Amph. Rept.: 26, provided a brief account. See brief account and photo by Matsui, 1979, Contrib. Biol. Lab. Reported for southwestern Cambodia by Ohler, Swan, and Daltry, 2002, Raffles Bull. Zool., 50: 465–481. Nutphund, 2001, Amph. Thailand: 114, provided a brief characterization and photograph. Stuart, 1999, in Duckworth et al. (eds.), Wildlife in Lao PDR: 48, commented briefly on the range in Laos. Chan-ard, 2003, Photograph. Guide Amph. Thailand: 138–139, provided a very brief account, map for Thailand, and photograph. Teynié, David, Ohler, and Luanglath, 2004, Hamadryad, 29: 37, provided a record and comments for Laos. Nguyen, Ho, and Nguyen, 2005, Checklist Amph. Rept. Vietnam: 29, provided specific localities for Vietnam. Stuart, Sok, and Neang, 2006, Raffles Bull. Zool., 54: 140–141, provided a record for Cambodia. Neang and Holden, 2008, Field Guide Amph. Cambodia: 80, provided a photograph, brief account of identification, ecology, and range in Cambodia. Fei, Hu, Ye, and Huang, 2009, Fauna Sinica, Amph. 3: 1186–1191, provided an account, figures, and map for China. Chan, Belabut, and Ahmad, 2010, Russ. J. Herpetol., 17: 202–206, considered the species to be part of the West Malaysia fauna but did not mention vouchers. Distr.: 341, provided an account, photographs, and a range map for China. Wangyal, 2013, J. Threatened Taxa, 5: 4774–4783, reported Hylarana taipehensis from Bhutan (Samdrupjongkhar District), but given the revision of Hasan et al. (2019), the likelihood is that this is referrable to Hylarana tytleri. Minimally the identification needs confirmation. See account, photograph, and map for Vietnam in Vassilieva, Galoyan, Poyarkov, and Geissler, 2016, Photograph. Field Guide Amph. Rept. Lowland S.
