Distribution

Central Vietnam north to throughout southern and central China (west to eastern Yunnan and eastern Sichuan and Hunan and north to Yangtze River); Taiwan; introduced onto Guam and Singapore.

Bhutan Ecol. Soc., 1: 30, noted that the presence in Bhutan requires confirmation. On the basis of rather shallow taxon sampling, Huang and Tu, 2016, Genet. Mol. Res., 15 (3, gmr.15038302): 1–9, suggested on the basis of molecular phylogenetics that this species is imbedded within Babina, but this requires further investigation given the essentially parallel study by Oliver et al.
