31December 2025: Added Spinomantis lakolosy and Spinomantis lavabato (Mantellidae), named by Hutter, Andriampenomanana, Lambert, and Vences, 2025, Evol. Syst., 9: 285–299, from Ranomafana National Park, in Southern Central East Madagascar, Fianarantsoa province.

29 December 2025: Added a comment under Amolops spinapectoris (Ranidae), noting the publication of Duong, Tran, and Hoang, 2025, J. Threatened Taxa, 17: 28011–28015, recorded the species in Hue City, Vietnam, and discussed morphology and life history.

28 December 2025: Added comments under Conraua, Conraua alleni, Conraua derooi, Conraua kamancamarai, and Conraua sagyimase (Conrauidae), noting the publication of Ernst, Portik, Segniagbeto, Ofori-Boateng, Doumbia, Penner, Kouamé, Fujita, Leaché, Blom, and Rödel, 2025, Mol. Not registered with ZooBank, so likely not validly published inasmuch as there is no evidence that the journal is paper published (DRF). I have to question why the editors of this journal have made this decision as it puts the work of authors at risk of being judged invalid.

Herpetol., 32: 249–255, who reported the species for the first time from Russia, in the Khasansky district, southwestern Primorsky Krai.

19 December 2025: Added Pristimantis paganus (Craugastoridae), named by Loza-Carvajal, Yánez-Muñoz, Quilumbaquin, and Ortega-Andrade, 2025, PeerJ, 13(e20512): 1–30, from Napo province, Ecuador. They also recognized a new subgenus, Cryptomantis, for the newly delimited Pristimantis bicantus and Pristimantis prolatus species groups.

Vol. 4 (Phyllomedusidae, Leptodactylidae, Ceratophryidae, Hemiphractidae, Eleutherodactylidae, Centrolenidae, Gymnophiona, and Caudata). One persistent problem throughout is that some of the accounts look to have been substantially completed in 2020 and many elevation ranges are given for distributions that appear to exclude the original elevation of the type locality, without comment. And it is frequently unclear whether the elevation ranges given are for the entire range or just for Ecuador. I've tried to resolve as best I can but future workers will have to resolve these. Having touched on this relatively minor issue, the volumes are an amazing source of information on all things amphibian for Ecuador and Coloma and Duellman (unfortunately deceased) have much to be proud of.

15 January 2025: Added Rhacophorus boeadii (Rhacophoridae), named by Hamidy, Riyanto, Munir, Gonggoli, Trilaksono, and McGuire, 2025, Zootaxa, 5569: 201–230, from Sulawesi, Indonesia, along with a substantial discussion of the comparative morphology, calls, and molecular markers distinguishing the other members of Rhacophorus on Sulawesi. The authors also provided a tree (453 bp of 16S rRNA) that suggested that both Rhacophorus is paraphyletic with respect to Leptomantis, and nominal Leptomantis with respect to Zhangixalus, but due to this based on less evidence than upon which (1972 bp) the original partition proposed by Jiang, Jiang, Ren, Wu, and Li, 2019, Asian Herpetol. Res., 10: 1–12, they did not suggest any taxonomic change beyond noting that further scrutiny is deserved.

10 January 2025: Placed Duttaphrynus bengalensis (Bufonidae) into the synonymy of Duttaphrynus melanostictus, following Dufresnes, Jablonski, Ambu, Prasad, Gautam, Kamei, Mahony, Hofmann, Masroor, Alard, Crottini, Edmonds, Ohler, Jiang, Khatiwada, Gupta, Borzée, Borkin, Skorinov, Melnikov, Milto, Konstantinov, Künzel, Suchan, Arkhipov, Trofimets, Nguyen, Suwannapoom, Litvinchuk, and Poyarkov, 2025, Nature Commun., 16(298): 1–14. I still have not completely digested this paper, which is easily the most interesting one I've read in a long time, touching on old introductions, conflicts between nu- and mt-DNA, and the difficulty of applying old and obscure taxonomic names. The authors' demonstrate that Duttaphrynus melanostictus is at least two species but pending resolution of name application have left them as Duttaphrynus melanostictus (resident on the Indian subcontinent but invasive in Wallacea) and Duttaphrynus cf. melanostictus (diversified throughout Southeast Asia and introduced into Madagascar). I am impressed.
