Running log of additions and changes, 2023

I attempt to summarize here what work I have done on ASW starting 1 January 2023. This log does not include error corrections and the like and I cannot promise that there will not be errors of omission or commission inasmuch as this log is not constructed automatically.

12 September 2023: Collapsed the taxonomy of Ichthyosaura (Salamandridae) to a single nominal species, Ichthyosaura alpestris, as treated by Robbemont, van Veldhuijzen, Allain, Ambu, Boyle, Canestrelli, Ó Cathasaigh, Cathrine, Chiocchio, Cogǎlniceanu, Cvijanovíc, Dufresnes, Ennis, Gandola, Jablonski, Julian, Kranželić, Lukanov, Martínez-Solano, Montgomery, Naumov, O’Neill, North, Pabijan, Pushendorf, Salvi, Bruno, Sotiropoulos, Stănescu, Stanković, Stapleton, Šunje, Szabolcs, Vacheva, Willis , Zimić, France, Meilink, Stark , Struijk, Theodoropoulos, de Visser, and Wielstra, 2023, Amphibia-Reptilia, 44: 347–361, pending the application of nuDNA evidence. This paper represents a large mtDNA phylogeographic study which illuminates, as do all large studies like this, some answers but also poses new questions, particularly about the status of unnamed matrilines, like their "Vlasina" matriline which forms the sister taxon of all others in the complex. Presumably the addition of nuDNA sequence will bring some more answers to this complex taxon.
